20-Year Yield Falls 5 bps to 5.60% (Oct 13, 2026)

Rates have climbed steadily over the past month, with the 2-year Treasury rate up from 4.63 percent to 4.79 percent, the 10-year Treasury rate rising from 4.96 percent to 5.21 percent, and the 30-year Treasury yield advancing from 5.35 percent to 5.56 percent. Today, Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the long end of the curve sits near its highest levels of that stretch. The 30-year Treasury yield slipped 4 basis-free points from Monday's 5.60 percent, while the 10-year Treasury rate fell 3 from 5.24 percent.

Compared with last week, the moves across maturities were modest. The 4-week bill ticked up to 4.10 percent from 4.06 percent, and the 3-month rate edged higher to 4.26 percent from 4.21 percent. Longer maturities drifted lower, with the 5-year at 5.00 percent versus 5.03 percent, the 7-year at 5.11 percent versus 5.15 percent, and the 20-year at 5.60 percent versus 5.68 percent. The 1-year rate was essentially unchanged at 4.48 percent.

Over the past 30 days, the entire curve has shifted upward. The short end rose more than 15 points at the 3-month and 4-month maturities, while the 10-year and 30-year each gained more than 20. A year ago, the 10-year Treasury rate stood at 4.05 percent and the 30-year Treasury yield at 4.63 percent, meaning today's rates are more than a full point higher at both maturities.

The Treasury yield curve remains upward sloping from the front end through the 20-year maturity. The 20-year rate, at 5.60 percent, sits above the 30-year rate of 5.56 percent, leaving a slight inversion between those two maturities. That 20-year to 30-year inversion was also present last week, when the gap was 4 points, and 30 days ago, when it stood at 3 points. At the front end, the 4-week bill remains below the 3-month rate, keeping the earliest portion of the curve in its usual upward order.
