Long-maturity rates led the Treasury market on October 8, 2026. The 30-year Treasury yield stood at 5.60 percent, lower than 5.67 percent the prior day and slightly below the 5.61 percent of one week ago. The 20-year Treasury yield, at 5.64 percent, held steady over the week after easing from 5.71 percent on Wednesday. A month earlier, on September 8, the 30-year rate sat at 5.25 percent and the 20-year at 5.26 percent, so both long rates have moved higher since then.

Shorter maturities rose: the 3-month bill rate climbed to 4.23 percent from 4.17 percent, and the 6-month rate reached 4.30 percent versus 4.27 percent. The 5-year at 4.99 percent and the 7-year at 5.11 percent were little changed. The 4-week Treasury bill rate stood at 4.14 percent, up from 3.81 percent thirty days ago.

Compared with one year ago, rates across the curve are substantially higher. At 5.22 percent, the 10-year Treasury rate sits above the 4.13 percent of October 8, 2025, and the 30-year Treasury yield is above last year's 4.72 percent. The 2-year Treasury rate has risen from 3.58 percent a year ago, and the 4-week Treasury bill rate from 4.20 percent. The curve remains upward sloping from the short end through the 20-year point, where 5.64 percent is the highest rate; the 30-year Treasury yield at 5.60 percent sits just below it. No portion of the curve is inverted today.
