Treasury Yield Curve Analysis

The 30-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.27 percent on Tuesday, marking the highest level in recent trading. This rate moved up from 5.25 percent on Monday and represents a notable 10 basis point increase compared to one week ago. The long end of the market has seen consistent upward pressure as investors reassess longer-term economic expectations. This rate also sits higher than where it traded a month ago at 5.13 percent.

The broader yield curve shifted higher across nearly all maturities compared to last Tuesday. The 1-year rate rose to 4.18 percent from 4.01 percent, while the 2-year climbed to 4.39 percent from 4.17 percent. Medium-term rates also moved up, with the 5-year reaching 4.55 percent and the 10-year moving to 4.79 percent. Short-term rates increased as well, with the 3-month rising to 3.92 percent from 3.86 percent and the 6-month holding near 4 percent.

Looking at the monthly picture, rates have generally moved higher over the past 30 days. The 30-year rate increased from 5.13 percent to 5.27 percent, while the 10-year rose from 4.63 percent to 4.79 percent. The 5-year showed one of the more notable moves, climbing from 4.37 percent to 4.55 percent. The 1-year rate moved from 4.08 percent to 4.18 percent over the same period. Interestingly, the 6-month rate actually dipped slightly from 4.02 percent to 4 percent, bucking the broader upward trend seen across most other maturities.

The curve maintains its inverted shape at the shorter end, with the 2-year rate at 4.39 percent sitting above the 1-year at 4.18 percent. However, the inversion has moderated compared to recent weeks as longer-term rates have risen more sharply. The difference between the 10-year and 2-year rates has narrowed, suggesting the curve is flattening somewhat in that segment. The overall level of rates has risen both week-over-week and month-over-month, with the curve shifting upward while retaining its general inverted structure in the shorter maturities.
